Aerial View of McMasters Cemetery, Located behind the home of Donald E. Lafferty II & his wife Tamara York at: 2435 Soapstone Mountain Road, Staley, North Carolina 27355
This historic McMasters Family Cemetery has been used as a burial location for over 220 years. Buried in this cemetery are some Pioneer First Colonial Families in North Carolina that settled in the Mount Pleasant Creek and Sandy Creek community in the mid 18th century in what was then either side of the border between Colonial Orange and Rowan Counties. Currently it is located in Columbia Township, in northeastern Randolph County, North Carolina - south of Liberty just west of Highway 49 on Sandy Creek Road, and from there south west about 1 1/2 miles on Soapstone Mountain Road.
The McMasters Cemetery has been restored, preserved, fenced, and is actively maintained by members of the Peter Kivett Family Association, Inc. This treasure of the past is visited frequently by the living descendants of those buried there, and many others with a serious interest in the history of this region.
